We started to organise a prestudy plannend as two focus groups to confirm our discovered common tasks and find eventual missed tasks. The focus groups consist of 4 persons each.

The first 4 person group should be media computer science students so they probably use and know mobile and desktop technology in daily life as expierenced users.

The second 4 person group consists of non-student persons to gather different insights in mobile and desktop usage.

The focus group interviews will be guided so the group focuses on tasks done on mobile devices, tasks done on desktop devices and tasks done on both devices.

The rough structure of the focus groups was as follows (the focus groups were conducted in Germany, therefore the questions and the whole moderation was in German):

Smartphone (Mobile Device)
    Welche Anwendungen verwenden Sie an ihrem Smartphone? (Which applications do you normally use on your smartphone?)
    Welche Aufgaben/Tasks erledigen Sie damit? (Which tasks do you handle with these applications?)
    Wo benutzen Sie üblicherweise ihr Smartphone? (Where do you usually use your smartphone?)
Desktop (Notebook, Tower)
    Welche Anwendungen verwenden Sie an ihrem Desktop? (Which applications do you normally use on your desktop computer?)
    Welche Aufgaben/Tasks erledigen Sie damit? (Which tasks do you handle with these applications?)
    Wo benutzen Sie üblicherweise ihren Desktop? (Where do you usually use your desktop computer?)
Comparison
    Sind darunter Aufgaben/Tasks, die Sie bevorzugt an einem Desktopcomputer durchführen? (Are there tasks that you prefer to handle on a desktop computer?)
    Welche Aufgaben/Tasks führen Sie bevorzugt am Smartphone durch? (Are there tasks that you prefer to handle on a smartphone?)
    Gibt es Aufgaben/Tasks, die Sie unterschiedlich auf Desktop oder Smartphone durchführen? (Are there tasks that you handle differently on a smartphone then on a desktop computer?)
Results
    Decken sich diese mit unseren identifizierten Aufgaben/Tasks? (Do these tasks match the tasks we identified before?)
    Welche gibt es sonst noch? (Which additional tasks are there?)
    

If a participant adressed an additional topic that might be interesting with regard of tasks with mobile and desktop devices, we encouraged them to also discuss them.

Update1: The focus group interviews are done and data analysis and transciption is running. The focus groups where held in the evening in living room enviroments. Water and snacks were provided.

Update2: The transciption is nearly done and the gathered info is used for the main study.
