Description

The annotation of text documents, while still often done on paper, is a common digital task. Depending on the type of document in question, the aim of the annotation and the available devices, there is a range of tools from which to choose to perform this task. However, little research has been conducted on the effects of different types of annotation tool and their available features on the process of annotation-making. We want to explore if and how the affordances of different tools influence users' behavior and performance.

Goals

This study goal is to determine the influence of different annotation tools on the error recall of documents. To this end, we aim to give an overview of existing types of document annotation applications and the methods they provide. A user study will be conducted in order to compare which annotation methods are preferred by users and how error recall changes depending on method and tool.
