Group: D_20/21 The first word definitions relevant for the topic. These being the definitions for the terms used as scale names for the SAM and definitions for test quality criteria which will be helpful in measuring the SAMs performance.

Definitions Test quality criteria (Döring & Bortz, 2016):

  • Objectivity: Testresults are independent from the person of the experiment supervisor
  • Reliability: No or low distortion of test values through measurement errors, meaning the test value depicts the true characteristic values of the subject very precisely.
  • Validity: The test value measures the characteristic that it claims to measure in the test description and primarily no other characteristics.

Definitions Self-Assessment-Manikin Measurement Scales (Bradley & Lang, 1994):

  • Valence/Pleasure: Events, objects, and situations may possess positive or negative valence, that is, they may posses intrinsic attractiveness or aversiveness. (Frijda, 1986)
  • Arousal: Affect arousal is the state of being activated, either physiologically or psychologically, and is one dimension of our affective response to emotional stimuli. Psychological characteristics of arousal include feelings of vigor, energy, and tension.(Niven & Miles, 2013)
  • Dominance: The exercise of influence or control over others (dictionary.apa.org)
