Introduction

This project is about the topic „Tasks and metrics for the comparison of user interfaces“. As can be seen in section „background“, there is no standardised way of testing and evaluating User Interfaces. So the aim is to create a corpus of tasks and metrics researchers can rely on when doing such evaluations. Since there are various UIs for many different usage contexts, the first step is to identify popular contexts and determine a certain one for this study/project.

Steps

  • Current: Literature research: What kind of UIs do scientists evaluate?
  • Select an usage context
  • survey: What kind of tools do users use? What do they need? What do they actually do with such tools?
  • Define tasks and select metrics (based on literature and needs of users)
  • Test tasks and metrics with a pre study
  • possibly correct corpus of tasks and metrics
  • Conduct Main Study
  • Evaluation of Main Study
  • Write and publish a paper to our research
