Study Design

We got several information out of the literature research, but this shows only the view of the scientists. That's why we made a pre-study questionnaire to get the view of the users. The questionnaire had the following sections:

  • Introduction
  • Tools / applications for photo sorting
  • Tasks for the photo sorting
  • Demographic information

Participants

The questionnaire was filled out by 24 participants. 13 female and 11 male. The average age of the persons was 24,79 years and the age span was from 22 to 30. We had 18 students and 6 workers.

Results

The study showed that the people mostly use smartphone applications (13 of 24) and desktop applications (12 of 24). 6 persons don't manage photos and 3 sort their images physical. For interaction with photos they use the applications like Google Fotos, Apple Fotos, Windows Data Manager, etc.

Important features are:

  • Sorting in folders (23)
  • Search bar (17)
  • Synchronisation (15)
  • Edit photos (14)

Used features are:

  • Edit photos (7)
  • Sorting in folders (3)
  • Search bar (2)

Feature requests to the used applications:

  • Labeling (4)
  • automatic sorting (2)

Goal

As mentioned in the study design the goal was to find additional information to the literature. The main aspect was to find tasks that the users make when they manage photos and the applications they use to sort photos. Furthermore we wanted to know which applications we can select to get two different applications out of the results that fit for our main study.

Next Steps

  • Interviews about tasks
  • Lists about metrics
